Webcraft UK Ltd - Company History

Early Years 1995 - 1999
The business was started in Aberdeenshire in 1995 to realise the potential of the web for rural craft businesses in Scotland. It soon became obvious that there was a wider small business market needing affordable commercial web development services, and so in 1996 we branched out to offer web design for any small or medium sized business and registered a limited company. The web was black magic then, and we had to sell the concept before we could sell a website. Clients found that they could talk to us, and that we could explain complex technical issues in a way they could understand and relate to their business.

2000 - 2003
Peoples' knowledge and expectations had grown and businesses were demanding more web performance for their money. We began to offer features such as bulletin boards, photo galleries and e-commerce. The range of industry sectors we dealt with broadened as awareness of the web as a cost-effective marketing tool spread. Many small web design companies came and went as people discovered web design was not an easy way to make a fast buck.

2004 - 2008
In mid-2003 the imminent availability of broadband enabled us to move the business to rural Argyll. Our client base diversified even further, with industry sectors from agriculture through to yachting represented in our portfolio. Almost universal broadband meant we were increasingly including more graphics, video or in-page photo galleries.

2008 - 2010
By 2008 we were catering for a mature market, with increasing competition from other high-quality small web design businesses. We continue to flourish by emphasising our long experience, integrity and value for money, with a high percentage of new business coming via referrals from existing clients, who are always pleased by the good performance of their site in Google.
